i don't even know where to start in describing to you how incredible john and julia's wedding was. i think i'll just have to begin at the beginning. norm and i arrived in puerto vallarta two days prior to the wedding and checked in where julia, john and all their family and friends were staying at the unbelievable dreams puerto vallarta. i still can't get over how awesome this resort is. its south of the city a few minutes, and tucked into a private cove with gorgeous rock formations at either end. after check in we were scheduled to meet julia and john and touch base later that evening at the lobby bar. so norm and i hit the beach to get our feet wet, and as fate would have it i spotted julia and john on the beach too. so we had an impromptu meeting right there on the sand. john and julia live in canada, so this was the first time i'd met them face to face. and it was at this meeting that i truly realized how great they are. they are so down to earth and easy to be around, that i instantly felt like we were friends and knew the rest of the week was going to be perfect. the next day was the rehearsal at dreams and dinner at vista grill (i highly recommend it - incredible view and great food). norm and i loved being a "guest" at the dinner while still shooting all the activities and toasts. it was great for us to get know the rest of the important people in julia and john's lives. the following day was the wedding. julia and her "girls" woke up early to take the ferry to las caletas (the mexican hideaway for director john huston - check out the story here) to enjoy a relaxing morning on the beach before the wedding. las caletas is one of the most beautiful locations i've ever seen for a wedding - mountains and jungle meet the coast. and, when you get married there, the place is yours. its completely private - no road access. kelley and nicole are the coordinators for las caletas, and they do an amazing job! they made sure the wedding went off without a hitch, and the reception was a blast. they had giant sparklers, tequila tasting, and fire dancers to make the evening rolling. the party was so much fun, that when the boat arrived at midnight to take everyone home, no one was ready to go. the next day we did a "day after session" and had a great time walking through old town puerto vallarta snapping some fun shots.
